Junior.

Junior is an interactive sculpture that I created to explore viewers perceived notions of common objects.

For this project, I was assigned to deconstruct regular random objects and combine them to create a new enticing object that causes the viewer to want to interact with it. To do this I knew that I would have to isolate the different interactive elements of each of my objects and somehow combine them in a way that felt organic and not forced.

I quickly realized that a box was the perfect vehicle for this combination and that I could manipulate different elements of the box to cause the viewer to want to interact with it. With this idea in my mind I got to work and glued different doorknobs on various areas of the box while none of them actually open the box, this causes the viewer to question what a doorknob really is and causes a strange feeling when it doesn’t do what it supposed to do.

I knew that when one pictures a box they imagine a solid top, so to mess with this view I decided to drill a hole in it and have wires sticking out of the top, causing the viewer to become intrigued in why this box goes against their ideas of what a box is. On the inside, I placed bright blue fake fur on the lid and purposely placed objects with different textures inside the box. My intention was that the viewer would open the box and then feel obligated to touch the various objects noticing the different elements and the contrast between them.
